How Hydra works

Two of the goals behind Hydra's design are:
  • security for developers
  • flexibility for customers

Hydra is using well known architectures and proven security technologies to support its operations. The general operations are summarised here:

    1. Whenever an application is executed, the Hydra Client linked with your application needs a valid licence stored on the customer's computer to allow the application to execute.
    2. The application calls the Hydra Client in a simple way to perform non-deterministic licence verifications to prevent hackers to detect when a licence verification is performed during the course of the execution of the application.
    3. During the trial period, the Hydra Client connects to the Internet to request a trial licence from a Hydra Server, which is kept in local memory for the duration of the execution of the application.
    4. No Internet access is needed after purchase and activation, except in case the application was deinstalled. In that case, the Hydra Client will automatically contact the Byssus server (just once) to retrieve paid licences and re-install them transparently for the customer.
    5. Activation of an application on a computer can be done in 2 ways:
    a. If payment is processed through a third-party web site or through a proxy buyer using Byssus Hydra Online Checkout, the customer needs to copy/paste the activation code provided by the payment service. The Hydra Client then contacts a Hydra server to exchange an activation code for a permanent licence code and stores it on the computer disk.
    b. If payment is processed using Byssus Hydra Online Checkout in the more simple way, the Hydra Server immediately generates a licence code and communicates it to the Hydra Client which automatically stores it on the local computer disk.
    6. Each activation code can only be used once. This is controlled by the Hydra Server which disables each activation code after it has been used.
    7. Licence codes are generated by a Hydra Server. Each licence code contains hardware fingerprints as found in each computer. These fingerprints can not be modified by software. Licence codes are encrypted with RSA-2048. Licence codes can't be copied from computer to computer and can not be broken by any brute-force attack.
